Essex lad joins army

Ten17's following 21 year old Adam Heath, from Waltham Abbey, as he trains to be a soldier in the British Army.

Adam Heath, from Waltham Abbey, has spent the last 4 weeks training to be a soldier.

The 21-year old officially joined the army on Monday 24 August, where he swore his Oath of Allegiance to the Queen in Chelmsford.

It was the Essex town's largest attestation ceremony in years, with 11 young men from Essex joining on the same day.

Only weeks before, Ten17 found out there would be a big rise in the number of people from Essex inquiring about joining the armed forces during the recession because of the job stability it offers.

Adam, a former brick layer, is doing his training for the Royal Logistic Corps in Pirbright, Surrey, where he will train to use a gun and learn a trade, such as building defensive positions and building barracks.

Listen to Adam talking to Ten17 reporter Jessica Shiddell four weeks into his training here.
