Fewer Referrals From Harlow

Fewer dangerous criminals from Harlow were referred to the special group who monitors and rehabilitates them than most other big towns in Essex last year.

MAPPA took on the cases of 113 serious, sexual or violent offenders from the West Essex town. The highest figure was 190 from Colchester.

Robin Brennan, from the probation service, says the figures can sound alarming but it means the authorities know about these people and can make sure they don't pose a risk to the public: "...We'll still be working with the police so that they can continue to monitor certain categories of offender long into the future. For some sex offenders, that can mean forever."
