Sexual Assault Referral Centre

Victims of rape and domestic violence in East Hertfordshire can now get specialist help and advice without having to go to the police.

The Sexual Assault Referral Centre is based in Cheshunt and is one of two in Hertfordshire. The other one is in Watford. It's been funded through the local health service, the police and a grant from the Home Office.

Victims of things like rape can go there for health checks and advice, without the police getting involved.

The services at both Cheshunt and Watford are available by ringing 0808 178 4448 and are open to all residents living in Hertfordshire.

"These types of offences are extremely personal and have significant impact on victims. Together with our partners we want to establish services that respect the needs of often vulnerable victims in such a time of crisis," explained Detective Superintendent Jon Chapman, who is the Hertfordshire Police's lead officer for Protecting Vulnerable People.
