Herts Air Ambulance

Over the past 18 months, Ten-17 has been supporting the appeal for a dedicated air ambulance for Hertfordshire. Finally, the county has its very own helicopter!

The new air ambulance for Hertfordshire was officially unveiled on Wednesday 5th November at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage.

So far, the appeal has raised almost £500,000 since the appeal was launched in April 07. Having reached £250,000 the charity was able to commission its own helicopter.

In the meantime, another £250,000 has been raised, but £80,000 per month is needed to keep the air ambulance running.  There is no public funding and the service relies on fundraising activity and individual donations, such as the Flight For Life Lottery.

It's the first time the county's had its own air ambulance. Before, Hertfordshire had to borrow the Essex helicopter. The crew say it'll mean they can save the lives of more people who're hurt in car crashes.

60 percent of ambulance callouts are to road accidents and 550 people died or were seriously hurt in crashes in the county last year.

It'll cost £80,000 pounds every month to keep the emergency helicopter in the air.

There are lots of ways you can get involved

You can donate via payroll, standing order, credit/debit card, and remembering the Trust in your will.

The Essex Air Ambulance Lottery has now been extended to cover Hertfordshire and you can check out the Lottery results here each week.
