Nicola Burrell studied fine art at Belfast. She lives in Essex and works as a painter and sculptor. This exhibition brings together a number of her paintings of urban spaces and places made over the last twenty years.

David Hockney: Six Tales from the Brothers Grimm (Community)

A unique opportunity to see a major touring exhibition in the Thorleybourne Gallery.

In this exhibition of etchings illustrating the six fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm, Hockney has given each fairy tale his own quirky and often humorous interpretation. Rather than illustrating the stories literally, he has chosen vivid images to encapsulate a mood or detail. Some of the tales are familiar, like Rapunzel and Rumpelstilzchen; others, such as Old Rinkrank, Fundevogel and The Little Sea Hare are little known.

The 39 etchings were drawn directly onto copper plates by Hockney between May and November 1969 (a decade in which etching featured strongly for Hockney).
